U.S., India sign long-stalled military cooperation deal
  • 6 years ago
The United States and India have signed a military cooperation deal that had been under discussion for more than a decade.
The agreement was reached on Thursday in New Delhi between the foreign and defense ministers of both countries.
It would allow for the sale of sensitive U.S. military hardware to India and also opens the door to a communications network between militaries of both nations.
Washington and New Delhi see each other as a useful partner in checking China's ambitions in Asia and as an ally in counterterrorism efforts.
But early attempts to reach a deal were stalled due to India's hesitation to open up its communications network to the U.S. military.
