U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun is due to visit South Korea next week in an effort to resume talks with North Korea ahead of the U.S. election.
According to Reuters on Friday, several U.S. State Department officials will be holding talks with their South Korean counterparts including the special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs Lee Do-hoon on Tuesday.
While noting that the global pandemic would make an in-person summit difficult before the November election, Biegun said earlier this week that there is still time to re-engage and "make substantial progress."
Relations between the two Koreas and the U.S. have been frosty since last month when the North abruptly blew up an inter-Korean liaison office.
