Police personnel and passerbys performed a tense rescue of school children stuck in a bus stranded in rising water under a railway underpass in Uttar Pradesh, India on September 6.

The incident occurred at Ram Nagaria village in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh, India.

According to reports, water had accumulated under a badly designed railway underpass due to heavy overnight rain. The bus got struck in the deep water after the driver ventured into it without realising how deep it was. Water levels then began to rise, reaching the windows of the bus which was surrounded by concrete walls of the railway underpass.

The Uttar Pradesh police responded to a distress call and rushed a team to rescue the children. Passerbys on the scene also assisted in the rescue, wading through the water and hauling the children out through the window to safety.
