Firefighters rescued a couple stranded on top of a minivan in a flash flood in eastern China last Sunday (August 19).

The dramatic video, captured in Rizhao City in Shandong Province, shows a fireman in a life jacket tied by ropes walking through the rapid floodwater to approach the couple.

After he attaches the ropes to the couple, the firefighters slide two life jackets towards them along the zip line.

With the help of both local villagers and firefighters, the woman and the man are pulled to the bank in turns.

The crowds cheer as they are brought safely onto land.

According to reports, they tried to drive across a bridge above a swollen river but got stuck in the middle of it.

The couple were rescued after two hours and they were not injured seriously, reports said.
