The Korea Tourism Organization said it is planning to expand and diversify the Muslim travel market in the country.
According to the 2018 Global Muslim Travel Index,… an estimated population of 1-point-8 billion Muslims around the world will spend around 300 billion US dollars in travel expenses by 2026.

The influx of Muslim visitors to Korea has been steadily growing as well, with some 990-thousand Muslim visitors entering the country in 2016.
With the number expected to continue growing by the year, the KTO opened its three-day Halal Food Festival on Thursday at COEX convention center in southern Seoul to introduce the country's Muslim-friendly infrastructures.

"Personally for me, I found Korea as acceptable for me because of the culture, food, and people. I think we have similar in terms of tradition, manners and stuff,... generally I love the country."

However, for most Muslim visitors, finding a restaurant classified as halal, or permissible for Muslim, has been the biggest challenge when coming to Korea.

"It is really hard to find Halal place. Whenever you go outside you have to ask those kind of foods are OK or not,... Sometimes it is hard to look after every place, mostly we get just like snacks rather than any hard meal."
"Whether the food contains pork or not. So often get meal at convenient stores."

"When you go to the shop you don't know what to buy you don't know whether it contains dairy products or not. It is kind of challenging all the time."
"For me I think language is kind a big obstacle here, because when we go to the convenient stores, in midnight, if you don't know the Korean language, if you are a tourist, then you won't know there is a pork."

Underscoring the importance of diversifying Korea's tourism industry to accommodate and promote the country's Muslim friendly infrastructure, … the third edition of the annual Halal Restaurant Week also opened on Thursday.
The event is expected to serve as a platform to introduce Korea's hahal establishments as well as offer price discounts and other various benefits.

"This year, some 250 Muslim-friendly restaurants across the country will serve special set menus like this,… and visitors can use coupons to get discounts of up to 9 U.S. dollars.
