Police dogs in Switzerland were sporting heatproof shoes on Tuesday,... as global temperatures rose to record highs this week.
Police based in Zurich shared photos dubbed "Operation Hot Dogs" on their Facebook page,... showing their canine companions wearing the shoes to protect their paws from the asphalt on the streets,... which officers say could heat up to 55 degrees Celsius.
Swiss authorities have been encouraging the locals to take special care of their dogs amid the prolonged heatwave.
Recommended measures include giving their dogs extra water, taking walks in the shade and ensuring the dogs don't exert themselves in the sweltering conditions.
