The South Korean government says it's investigating shipments of North Korean coal that was brought into the country via Russia last year,... which would be a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
Voice of America reported Tuesday that an expert panel under the UN Sanctions Committee filed in its annual report,... that the coal was shipped to Russia's Kholmsk port,... and unloaded at the South Korean ports of Incheon and Pohang last October.
The ships that transferred the coal were found to be operated by Chinese companies.
An official at Seoul's Foreign Ministry said the government was aware of the cases in October,... and will attempt to confirm the report.
He also said South Korea is working closely with the international community to implement sanctions on North Korea.
