South Korea aiming to declare end to Korean War within this year: President Moon
  • 6 years ago
President Moon Jae-in says his administration's goal is to declare an official end to the Korean War within this year,... 65 years after the armistice agreement was signed.
In an interview Wednesday with the Singapore daily The Strait Times, President Moon said he'll closely consult with North Korea and the U.S. regarding the timing and formalities... adding the move will be significant in ending inter-Korean hostilities, in line with the terms laid out in the Panmunjom Declaration.
He says there were many improvements in inter-Korean relations this year that would've been unthinkable in the past... and now is the time to seize the momentum to establish peace and co-prosperity through the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
President Moon says he firmly believes the window of opportunity for reunification will open as inter-Korean relations gradually recover.
