President Moon completed his four day state-visit to India on Wednesday. It has been hailed as a largely successful trip, building diplomatic and economic ties with one of the fastest growing economies in Asia. It is perhaps especially important as the traditional major economic powers continue to engage in trade wars, putting pressure on other nations to diversify their trade partners. To further discuss President Moon's trip to India, and some other stories of the day, we have with us Dr. Kim Chang-su from the Korea Institute of Defense Analyses. 1 - President Moon Jae-in has said relations with India are the most important, outside of South Korea's four traditional main partners; the U.S. China, Russia and Japan. Would you agree?
2 - Perhaps the most important part of the relationship is trade. How important is it for South Korea to diversify its trade relationships, especially in light of the trade dispute that is going on between the U.S. and China right now?
3 - During his visit, President Moon referred to India as a key partner for his "New Southern Policy". Can you explain to our viewers what that means and why is India is a key partner?
4 - If South Korea has a 'New Southern Policy', India has its own Eastern policy. What place does South Korea have in India's foreign policy?
5 - Let's move onto the latest developments on North Korea. South Korea has confirmed that it will suspend its Ulchi exercise drills this year. This follows the suspension of the joint drills with the U.S., the Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercises and others this year, in efforts to improve relations with North Korea. Can you explain what these drills were?
