Germany suffer shock World Cup exit, Mexico saved by South Korea

German football fans were devastated and dumbfounded in equal measure after South Korea's surprise victory.
On the flip side, Mexican fans couldn't believe their luck.... and went out of their way to thank South Korea for helping them continue their journey in Russia.
Park Se-young has more.

Tens of thousands of German football fans gathered at the fan mile in downtown Berlin,… the same place they celebrated winning the 2014 World Cup.
This time,… the fans were distraught as they watched the defending champions crash out of the World Cup, …after a stunning two-nil defeat by South Korea.

"The team didn't fight, not even after the first goal, a bad match."

This is the first time in 80 years for Germany to be knocked out of the tournament in the opening round, …and most fans agreed that the German team deserved to be eliminated.

"Of course I don't feel that great but this time it was justified as the Germans didn't play well, the South Koreans fought really hard so all in all they really deserved to win. And the Germans deserved to be knocked out of the tournament."

On the other side of the world, in Mexico City, hundreds of fans celebrated outside the South Korean embassy,… to thank the Asian country for giving Mexico a massive helping hand to the last 16 with their win over Germany.
Mexican fans were also seen carrying a South Korean man on their shoulders at Mexico City's public viewing area.

"We didn't play well but thanks to the (South) Koreans we made it through to the next round. Let's go after Brazil now."

South Korean fans were found jumping, dancing and even crying, …praising their team for not giving up.
Despite the historic win, South Korea will be leaving Russia along with Germany, …but the squad will be able to come home to a proud nation with their heads held high.
