One day until summit but Kim and Trump's schedules under wraps
  • 6 years ago
북미정상회담 하루앞둔 김정은, 트럼프,... 오늘 일정은?

As we have been doing all day, we begin with latest from Singapore, where the North Korea-U.S. summit will be held.
Our Lee Ji-won is standing by in the host nation... as part of our special summit coverage team.
Let's connect to the International Media Center right now.
Ji-won. What do you have for us?

Daniel, We are hearing that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is likely to be having a tour around some of Singapore's industrial sites.
South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported earlier, citing foreign affairs sources, that Kim will go to around 3 or 4 places that symbolize Singapore's economic growth.
Kim also did something similar when he visited China in March. He visited one of China's top natural science research centers.
This could be a move backing up Kim's statement that North Korea will now shift its focus toward developing its economy, and away from nuclear weapons.
Now we'll bring you updates on that once we find out more.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump, had a busy day today as well.
At noon, he sat down with the Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana, the presidential residence. The two leaders met for about two hours, during which they had a working lunch.
Trump expressed his gratitude for Singapore's hospitality, professionalism and friendship,... as the city-state plays host to the historic summit between the United States and North Korea.
Trump also briefly mentioned his thoughts on tomorrow's summit with Kim Jong-un, which he said he thinks will "work out very nicely".

After wrapping up his engagement with his Singaporean counterpart at two in the afternoon,... Trump held a meet and greet session at the Shangri-La Hotel where he is staying, with over 200 military personnel and U.S. embassy staff in Singapore. He thanked them for their preparations for the summit.

Now Ji-won we also heard the final touches for the summit have been taking place right up until the last minute. Can you tell us more about that?

Sure Daniel, the U.S. and North Korean delegates who had been negotiating over at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom for the past few days have met again today, for the seventh time.
American ambassador to the Philippines and a former nuclear negotiator, Sung Kim and North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui met for less than two hours this morning at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
The discussions seem to have hinged on the notion of North Korea's complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization,... or CVID.
Unnamed sources say the U.S. seeks to get a commitment from the North to CVID in writing,... but Pyongyang is protesting strongly against the phrase,... because it sees it as portraying the regime as a defeated country.

Well, while heavy talks are continuing behind closed doors, we are seeing U.S. President and his delegates upload their latest stories on Twitter. Can you tell us more about that?

Yes, Trump h
