South Korea's navy launched a new 14-thousand-five-hundred-ton amphibious assault ship called the Marado, named after the nation's southernmost island.
The public debut was held today at a shipyard in Busan belonging to Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction.
Defense minister Song Young-moo... spoke at the ceremony, saying the Marado contributes to maritime security in Northeast Asia and the world.
The Marado is 199 meters long, and can sail at a maximum speed of 23 knots or 41 kilometers per hour.
It's equipped with advanced radar and can carry troops, amphibious boats and helicopters.
The Marado is the South Korean Navy's second large-scale transport ship,... in addition to the Dokdo, and it will be officially delivered to the South Korean Navy in 2020... after trial operations.
