Chna's economy grows 6.8% on strong consumer spending

Despite concerns of a trade war between Washington and Beijing,... China's GDP grew by six point eight percent in the first quarter compared to the previous year.
The growth came mainly on the back of strong consumer spending, and suggests China's economy is holding up well in the midst of a trade skirmish with the United States.
The growth rate matches Bloomberg's projection for the Chinese economy, but is higher than Reuters' forecasts, and is well above the targets discussed in China's National People's Congress held last year.
However, China also saw relatively sluggish growth in manufacturing and investment.
