Tensions rise in Seongju County between residents and police over further base construction on THAAD deployment

The government is attempting to carry materials to the site of the THAAD anti-missile system in Seongju County, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, where local residents are protesting the deployment.
About 150 local residents, as well as some civic activists who are against the deployment,... have occupied the road into the site for the past few months,... preventing trucks from going in and out.
Some three thousand police officers have been deployed there starting from seven A.M. Thursday,... to try and ensure the trucks can access the site.
Seoul's defense ministry says construction of the site is now an urgent matter,... adding that the materials being delivered are related to basic sanitation for stationed troops... and are not related to the construction of the THAAD launchers.
