South Korea's top economic policymaker has sent a letter to his U.S. counterpart to urge the Trump administration to exempt South Korea from stiff steel tariffs that could seriously hurt local exporters.
Korea's Finance Ministry says Minister Kim Dong-yeon's letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin expressed Seoul's concerns over the move.
Kim said Korea's steel and auto-making businesses have created jobs in the U.S. through investments in the country,... and Seoul hopes the new tariff measures don't harm bilateral relations.
The finance minister also plans to meet with Mnuchin at next week's G20 finance ministers' meeting in Argentina,... where he's likely to convey the message once again.
