Korea's trade ministry holds emergency meeting to counter U.S. steel, aluminum tariff measures
  • 6 years ago
Korea's trade ministry is holding an emergency meeting following President Trump's announcement to go ahead with steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
The Minister of Trade, Energy and Industry , Paik Un-gyu, is presiding over the meeting with local steel makers and government officials in Seoul to discuss countermeasures to Washington's steel import tariffs.
The trade ministry said it will look into ways to minimize the impact on Korea's steel companies... and analyze how the move will affect the ongoing Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement renegotiations.
Seoul has repeatedly asked the Trump administration to exempt it from the steep tariffs, citing their close economic and security ties.
