大会3連覇を目指していた松山英樹は、第2ラウンドスタート前に左手親指付け根の痛みのために棄権した。
2日目は午後0時02分にティオフする予定だった松山は、パッティング練習を行った後、打撃レンジに移動。テークバックでクラブを上げるだけで痛そうな表情を浮かべ、飯田光輝トレーナーに左手や肩をマッサージしてもらいながら、ウェッジ、ショートアイアンと15球ほどを打ったが、プレー続行は無理と判断して、棄権を決断した。
痛みが出たのは、初日の13番のティショット。突然、激痛が走ったという。松山は「(同じ箇所の)痛み自体は出たことあるけど、初めての痛みだった。昨日の時点でスイングもおかしくなり始めていた。きょう何球か打ったけど、もうスイングができないので影響があると思いやめました」と明かした。
前日のラウンド後も飯田トレーナーと懸命の治療を行ったが、痛みを取ることができなかったという。
「残念です。プレーしたかったし、プレーした結果がダメならダメで納得いくけど、できないのが一番つらいです」と言い残し、松山は悔しそうにコースを後にした。
