First lady Melania Trump kicked off National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month with an encouraging tweet on Friday, which quickly took a likely unexpected turn.
The message read, “Sept. is Nat'l Alcohol&Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Together we can strengthen families&communities & beat addiction. Call: 800-662-HELP.”
There were supportive responses, including, “Thank You this is a very important matter, I'm glad you're bringing it to the forefront. Also Thank you for the generous donation to Houston,” and, “Thank you for getting the word out on this subject matter.”
Others took different paths.
One person responded, “We all need a drink after each passing day of your husband's antics,” while another wrote, “Your husband is causing all of us to drink a lot more.”
There were some who questioned how deeply dedicated the first lady really is to the cause.
One Twitter user commented, “I'm assuming there will be your usual follow through on such an important issue as your cyber bullying campaign.”
Many have, indeed, wondered what sort of progress she has made in her fight to protect America’s young people from online tormentors.
USA Today notes that Melania Trump's office offered an update on that initiative in the wake of President Trump’s June twitter attack on the hosts of MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,' saying that the first lady remains “thoughtful” on the matter.
