Spanish coastguards save over 300 lives off Cadiz

Spanish coastguards have rescued 317 people, mostly African migrants, from the sea off the coast near Cadiz.

Three coast guard boats were needed for the rescue operation, one of the biggest single-day rescues in recent months.

Migrant numbers crossing from north Africa into Spain have risen this year, although the most popular route remains into Italy via Libya.

Among those rescued on Wednesday were 13 women, 1 baby and 31 children.
