JUPITER, FLORIDA — Recent reports out of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office suggest a K-9 police dog took a bullet for his partner during a chaotic gunfire exchange, and lived.

On May 12, Casper the K-9 heroically jumped in front of his partner during a police shootout with a wanted criminal, Philip O’Shea, 46. Wanted in Raleigh, North Carolina for holding up a motel, the cops spotted O’Shea and gave chase in their cruisers, leading O’Shea to crash his vehicle. With nowhere left to run, O’Shea fired shots at the officers, one of which was reportedly aimed at Casper’s partner. Casper bravely leapt to duty, taking hot lead to his left hip.

While O’Shea was eliminated in the deadly exchange, Officer Casper survived, and is now back home, recovering from his injuries.
