Teen in Mexico invents breast cancer detection bra

MONTERREY, MEXICO — A teenager in Mexico won the top prize at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards by inventing a bra that can detect breast cancer.
The bra is called EVA. It is equipped with 200 tactile biosensors. The device is designed to map out the surface of the breast and surrounding areas along with changes in skin temperature and texture.
Users have to wear the bra for at least 60 minutes a week to obtain accurate measurements. An increase in the shape, size or temperature of a breast could suggest more blood flow to the area, which might indicate the existence of some types of breast cancer.
The inventor of the EVA bra, 18-year-old Julian Rios Cantu, started Higia Technologies with three friends to develop the bra. However, the device is only at the prototype stage and it may take at least two years to pass the certification process.
