France Bastille Day truck attack: authorities investigate if Mohamed Bouhlel acted alone - TomoNews

NICE, FRANCE — With no terrorist group claiming responsibility for the Nice truck attack, French authorities are investigating whether the attacker had carried out the brutal attack alone or with accomplices.

The attacker, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, grew up in northeast Tunisia and moved to France around 2005. Bouhlel had minor criminal records but was not in the government database of radicalized militants.

“Although yesterday's attack has not been claimed, this sort of thing fits in perfectly with calls for murder from such terrorist organizations,” Reuters quoted Paris prosecutor Francois Molins as saying. He added that the investigation will try to determine whether Bouhlel had ties to Islamist terrorist organizations.

Contrary to earlier reports, the cargo hold of the truck actually carried a bicycle and eight empty pallets while an automatic 7.65 millimeter pistol, a fake automatic pistol, two fake assault rifles, a fake grenade, a cellphone and some unspecified documents were found in the truck cabin.

At least 10 children were among the fatalities while 25 out of 202 injured were on life support.
