Animal abuse: Grizzly bear chased by Montana ranch hand Lawrence Kennedy in pickup truck - TomoNews

BROWNING, MONTANA — A grizzly bear made the mistake of creeping too close to a rancher’s farm. He also had the bad luck of a sadistic ranch hand who obviously took great pleasure out of chasing him in a pickup truck.

Lawrence Lane Kennedy was driving the vehicle, while his friend Stephen Upham was in the passenger seat, recording the incident. After Kennedy posted the video to Facebook, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services began an investigation, which led to Kennedy being charged with unlawfully harassing a threatened species, for violating the Endangered Species Act.

As part of the plea deal, Kennedy was fined $400. In response to the video, Kennedy claims the vehicle never exceeded a speed of 10 miles/hr, and that his intention was never to bother the bear, but rather to lure it away from the livestock. He said they posted the video to alert the neighboring community of grizzlies roaming in the area.
