JEFFERSON COUNTY, COLORADO — It’s not everyday you find a bear sitting in the backseat of your car, but that’s exactly the kind of surprise a woman in Colorado was dealt last week.

On July 12, Annie Bruecker awoke to screams from her mother, who’d walked down her driveway and found a black bear trapped inside her 2005 Subaru Outback. Bruecker did admit to leaving her door unlocked, but even still, no one could understand how a bear could possibly manage to unlatch a car door, jump in the back and close the door behind him.

Local police were called in to try to handle the situation, keeping all parties safe, including the crafty bear. The officers decided the best solution was to quickly open the car door in hopes that the bear would scamper off. With a shotgun pointed at the bear just in case something went wrong, one of the officers opened the door, and fortunately the bear wasted no time in bolting back toward the forest.

Luckily at the close of this odd occurrence, no one was harmed. However, the same can’t be said for Annie Bruecker’s car. The interior of her SUV was left shredded and utterly destroyed, having suffered the wrath of a trapped and confused bear. But from now on, everyone in bear territories should remember to lock their car doors, and consider themselves on notice for attacks from a unique brand of carjacker.
