Koreans takes Oxy protest to UK headquarters

Koreans have taken their protest to London... over a household product made by British firm, Oxy Reckitt Benckiser that's linked to lung diseases and deaths of Korean consumers.
Bruce Harrison joins me in the studio with more.
Bruce, this must have been an emotional day for the protestors.

Definitely, Connyoung. Two men traveled to London, including Kim Deok-jong, whose 5-year old son died from a respiratory disease in 2009. Korea says 92 people were thought to have died last year... from causes related to humidifier products, not all of them made by Oxy Reckitt Benckiser.

Bruce, staging this protest nearly halfway across the globe in London, how effective is it going to be?

The protest outside Reckitt Benckiser's headquarters on Thursday was just the first day of their week in London.

On Friday, they'll meet company officials and demand that Reckitt Benckiser's CEO travel to Korea and make an official apology in front of the victims. They also want documented, concrete compensation measures.

"What they really worry about is not Korean victims, you know, and Korean people's complaining or appealing, but international influence. So now it is time, we are going to deliver our message to the global, global society, particularly the stakeholders of Reckitt Benckiser."

Korea says 530 people registered claims of lung ailments from using humidifier sterilizers made by over a dozen companies.
Reckitt says it has settled about 80 percent of any cases out of 177 claims by Koreans who say they used its products.
