A brave Arizona woman stood her ground when a man broke into her Phoenix home and assaulted her in May.

The 47-year-old woman shot the burglar, Michael Lewis, with a .38 caliber revolver while she was on the phone with 911. She told 911 dispatchers, “Please help me, someone’s trying to get into my house.”

“They’ve tried my front door, and my pet door, and now they’re trying to break in my back gate,” she said while hiding in her bathroom. “I have a gun in my hand, I’m terrified.”

Lewis entered the house through the back door and attacked the homeowner in the bathroom. The woman shot Lewis and spoke with the 911 dispatchers until police to arrived.

Lewis spent a month in the hospital and has since pleaded guilty to burglary and assault charges. The woman said her late husband taught her how to handle the firearm.
