Teenage shooting: 14-year-old boy shoots and kills burglar to protect his grandmother

A 14-year-old shot and killed an intruder who was trying to break into his grandparents’ house in North Carolina on Tuesday evening.
The grandson was taking care of his grandmother, Anna Marie Wyant, while the rest of the family was away when they heard a back window break around 5 p.m. at the home in an unincorporated area surrounded in the Charlotte area.
The teen ran to the window and saw that a burglar was already halfway inside. He shot him three times after he failed to stop the thief from climbing in.
The would-be burglar, 18-year-old Isai Robert Delcid, died instantly. His brother, 22-year-old Carlos Delcid, fled the scene in an SUV.
The terrified grandmother called the police for help.
This wasn’t the first time the family had been victimized by crime. The teen’s father, Gregorio “Greg” Hernandez, 35, was shot to death at his automotive shop in 2008.
That when the teen’s grandfather, George Wyant, determined to teach his grandson gun safety and took him to shooting ranges for practice.
Carlos Delcid was apprehended late Tuesday night and charged with first-degree burglary. This was the second time the brothers had tried to break into the Wyant’s house. The teen, who has not been identified, is believed to have acted in self-defense and has not been charged a crime.
