An Alabama man is accused of going on a rampage that ended in him killing the man who had molested his daughter.
The Cullman Times reports that the shooting spree began when Jay Maynor, 41, drove up on his motorcycle to the Berlin Plaza Quick Stop in Cullman County, Alabama, about 50 miles from Birmingham. Maynor allegedly tried to shoot his step-daughter's boyfriend through the store's window but the man escaped.
His target escaped and the suspect then headed to the house where Raymond Earl Brooks was living with his parents. Brooks, 59, was a registered sex offender who had molested Maynor's daughter.
Maynor allegedly shot and killed Brooks inside. He was apprehended after an Alabama state trooper responding to the scene saw Maynor pull out on his motorcycle.
Maynor has been charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling. Brooks was convicted of first degree sex abuse of Maynor's daughter in August 2002. Police say the girl was eight at the time, but court records show she was seven, according to the Associated Press.
Maynor is currently being held at the Cullman County Detention Center. It's not clear what sparked the shooting, and investigators are unaware of any connection between Brooks and the other intended victim."
