Gym scammer busted: Fitness fake cons 30 women out of almost US$1 million - TomoNews

Police, in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, have arrested a man for scamming more than 30 women out of almost US$1 million.

The 43-year old man, surnamed Peng, opened a restaurant after leaving the military. He also worked out regularly at a local gym where he started meeting the women he would eventually scam.

Peng used the gym, the restaurant, and online dating services to meet women and convince them that he wanted to open his own gym. He would outline his design and plan for the gym, telling the women that he needed an investor.

If the woman didn’t have enough money, Mr. Peng would convince them to take out a loan, claiming that his credit was maxxed out because of the costs associated with opening the gym.

After he got the money, Peng would dump the woman and cut off all contact.

Eventually the women started to realize there was more than one or even three women in his life and that Peng was attempting to scam each and every one of them for money.
