Fake cop busted: government worker arrested for operating Knights Templar police force - TomoNews

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested three California residents on Thursday for operating a fake police department they claimed had been around for 3,000 years.

David Henry, Tonette Hayes and Brandon Kiel were booked on suspicions of impersonating police officers, according to the LA Times.

Kiel, 36, works as an aide for California Attorney General Kamala Harris.

The Masonic Fraternal Police Department started sending letters to real police departments in January to announce the induction of Henry, who was to serve as the new police chief.

But the Masonic cops raised suspicions when they met with Capt. Roosevelt Johnson of the LASD Santa Clarita station. The group reportedly couldn't answer basic questions about its mission.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigated the group's legitimacy and found it claimed ties to the Knights Templar.

"We are born into this Organization our bloodlines go deeper then an application. This is more then a job it is an obligation," the group wrote in a misspelled rhyme on its website.

The website also provides links to file police complaints and donate to the department, but the links appear to be broken.

On Thursday, Los Angeles officials seized a car, badges, police uniforms and weapons at one of the addresses listed on the website.

Jail records indicate the group members were released shortly after the arrest.

Kil, who makes $5,618 monthly according to the LA Times, has been placed on administrative leave.
