These images, obtained by Reuters from social media, purport to be from Monday, though they cannot be independently verified.

But they appear to show an arsenal amassed by the group that includes tanks and a missile.

On Sunday the group, also known as ISIL, claimed universal authority over areas it controls in Syria and Iraq,

and that its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was now caliph of the Muslim world.

In another part of the country, video purports to show ? Syrian forces continuing to bomb a group of insurgents.
