Afghan security patrol the site of a roadside bombing that killed one police officer and wounded eight other people on Thursday.

The deadly blast caused the driver of a nearby car to lose control and crash into the explosion site, killing one civilian and wounding two others.

SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) POLICE COMMANDER OF THE AREA, MOHAMMAD IBRAHIM AGHA, SAYING:

"As a result of this explosion one policeman was martyred and eight others wounded. A Corolla car also crashed near the site of blast and one passenger was killed and two others wounded. They were taken to an emergency hospital for treatment."

Eleven years into the NATO-led war against Taliban insurgents, violence against Afghan security forces is on the rise.

The level of violence underlines concerns over how the 350,000-strong Afghan security forces will manage once most NATO-led troops withdraw by the end of next year.
