Suicide blast kills policemen in Afghanistan

Afghan security forces stand guard at the site of a deadly bombing in Kandahar that killed three policemen and wounded at least three others.

Local officials said a suicide attacker blew himself up at this check point in the southern Afghanistan province on Thursday morning.

Local residents described the blast as powerful, saying it shattered many nearby windows.

Eleven years into the U.S. led war violence is continuing to intensify, sparking concerns over how Afghan forces, often the target of Taliban attacks, will manage once foreign troops leave.

Both Kabul and Washington have been pursuing separate peace negotiations with the Taliban, as the 2014 deadline looms for most foreign forces to leave.
