How to Make a Mint Julep - part of the exotic cocktails video series by GeoBeats. Hi I'm Scott Mayer. I'm the mixologist here at Miami's oldest bar in Cabaret, Tobacco Road. Ok, well this is probably the drink I'm most famous for and it's deceptively simple. But there's a lot of bad ones out there, and this is your classic Bourbon Mint Julep. So first thing we're going to do is we're going to crush some ice. Looks almost like a snow consistency. Now we're going to take a rocks glass. We're going to go ahead and empty that ice into the rocks glass. We will even shape it a little bit. So there we go, it almost looks like a snow cone. Next thing we're going to do is take a bunch of mint. Nice big bunch. You go ahead and muddle that. We're going to muddle that pretty vigorously, try to get that broken down into some nice small pieces. Now we're going to add about an ounce of brown sugar syrup. It's just brown sugar and water. We're going to top that off with some good Kentucky Bourbon. Fill the shaker with ice. Give it a good shake. We'll slowly pour it over the crushed ice. And then even though I like to have this drink without a straw, it is somewhat unruly so we'll go ahead and give it a straw. And there it is our Classic Mint Julep.
