00:03 For the college football playoffs and potential talk of expansion before we
00:08 even see the expansion from four to 12 actual things in place this season.
00:15 12 team expanded field, a new format has been decided on.
00:19 It was the expected change now confirmed by the board of governors earlier this
00:24 week, five plus seven, five automatic births for
00:27 the five highest ranked conference champions around the country, seven at
00:32 large bids.
00:33 But Rick, I wanna ask you about the TV revenue and how that all plays into
00:36 the conversation about what is next for the college football playoff.
00:40 The deal with ESPN runs through 2025.
00:45 A new contract might be underway in 2026.
00:49 How does the TV revenue pair with what we are going to see in terms of the college
00:54 football playoff format?
00:56 >> Two things really quickly.
00:57 First of all, you must be medicated cuz that was one of the nicest
01:00 introductions you've given to me at the beginning of that segment.
01:04 So thank you very much.
01:05 Back to the story.
01:07 I published a rumor, has it, details have it, that it'll be a billion three for
01:13 six years, each of the six years that comes up after this next one.
01:17 You may say that's a lot of money, but wait a second.
01:20 The old deal, which was half of that, was for three games.
01:24 This one is for at least 11 games a year.
01:27 So, and plus, ESPN would be the only one.
01:30 What did they look at CBS and Fox and Amazon and Google and
01:36 all of the usual suspects?
01:37 I don't know.
01:38 So there's a lot of discussion about whether that deal is the final deal.
01:42 Simultaneous with the five plus seven.
01:44 It used to be six automatics and the Pac-12 folded.
01:47 So the other thing about that is it's maybe a death knell to the non-Power 5s,
01:53 the Cincinnati's and otherwise.
01:54 You may not see them ever in it again at the 12 team level,
01:58 because they may not be one of the seven.
02:00 They'll be a conference runner up.
02:02 So a lot to be worked out, and it is all interrelated.
02:06 But watch for the college football playoff deal to be signed,
02:11 not just talked about.
02:12 We lawyers like to talk a lot,
02:13 because it gives us the opportunity to raise our fees.
