Illegal Traffic Stop and Search - May 18, 2022

On May 18th, 2022, a Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop for "no license plate." As is the case in approximately 98% of these "no plate" stops, the vehicle had a temporary tag in the back glass. Deputy ran the IDs of both the driver and passenger, and searched the vehicle. Deputy didn't find anything so he let them go.
As will become more apparent as we upload more videos, this department has a longstanding practice of stopping motorists just because they have a temp tag, under the guise of "no license plate." In fact, during daylight hours on a day in December 2020, a deputy spotted a new car in a driveway. The car had a temp tag in the back glass, and two deputies conspired to stop it after dark for "no plate" even though they clearly saw the temp tag.
