Illegal Traffic Stop, Vehicle Search - June 1, 2021

On the night of June 1st, 2021, a Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office deputy stopped two black motorists for "no license plate." As with 98% of these stops, the car had a temporary tag in the back glass. One person in the vehicle, exercising common sense, had apparently called someone and was explaining that they hadn't done anything to be stopped for, and refused to hang up the phone. Deputies detained her and searched the vehicle. They did find some illegal substances and issued a summons, but this is a situation where the entire interaction was unreasonable under the 4th Amendment.
