Veteran BJP Leader Quits, Feels Betrayed By BJP | Rajen Gohain | Assam Nagaon | Himanta Biswa Sarma

News coming in from Assam. A senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union Minister Rajen Gohain has resigned from the position of Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation in protest against the delimitation of the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency. Gohain has represented Nagaon constituency four times.

Gohain has also claimed that it will be impossible for the party to win from that seat in the future. In a statement to the new agency, Gohain stated that nobody should be given absolute power in the party’s state unit.
In a letter to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, Gohain said that the recent delimitation process has rendered the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency ""unwinnable for BJP candidates in the future and has also put the people of the constituency under threat due to demographic change"".
The letter further reads, ""Despite having numerous rounds of discussions with you, I am afraid that my concerns and deep dissatisfaction on the way the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency has been constituted did not bring any change whatsoever.”
Gohain said he had also informed Union home minister Amit Shah of his concerns. He was asked to give his recommendations in writing.
Gohain took this step the very next day of the decision, but unfortunately it did not bring any positive outcome. He further stated that now he feels betrayed and disrespected that senior members like him were not heard by his own party leaders out of genuine concern which is for the party’s benefit.
Gohain said that he was with BJP for over 25 years, and had represented the Lok Sabha seat from BJP for a span of 20 years. He further pointed out that his experience on this matter should have been counted.

Gohain later claimed that the recent delimitation regarding the assembly constituencies was correct and secure for the indigenous population, but the Nagaon parliamentary constituency has been ""a gift"" to opposition parties.

Another question that arises in the backdrop of such incidents, are BJP veterans feeling isolated and discarded? We have seen a lot of people parachuting to BJP from different political parties and gaining more power and importance than the old hands. In Maharashtra, we have seen leaders like Eknath Kadse, Vinod Tawde etc, sidelined and Narayan Rane, Radhekrishna VK Patil setting plum positioning.

BJP was known to be a party with a difference, giving ample importance to their senior members and ideology. But no it looks like, BJP has or is turning into yesteryear Congress?
