Axe-wielding gunman in Thailand swings at airport staff in a restricted area

A 34-year-old Thai man, Watchara Khambut, was arrested after riding a motorcycle into a restricted airport zone in Bangkok on May 3, 2022. He swung an axe at ground staff on the tarmac and was then chased until he reached a closed terminal door. He destroyed the glass door before security guards tackled him to the ground. Police found an axe, an air gun, and a methamphetamine tablet on him. He has been detained by police. Khambut faces the possibility of a life sentence or the death penalty.
