The government is likely to table a bill in Parliament today to raise the legal age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years, bringing it at par with that of men. The Centre had on Wednesday cleared a proposal for the same.

The proposed bill may also seek to make consequential changes to various personal laws relating to marriage between different communities to ensure a uniform marriage age.

Amid concerns that cases of Omicron may rapidly grow, Delhi on Sunday reported 107 Covid-19 cases of coronavirus in 24 hours. This is the highest daily spike in nearly six months. The capital also reported two new cases of Omicron variant on Monday.
