After Diwali, preparations are underway to celebrate Govardhan Utsav on the Pratipada of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. On this day, Bali Puja, Anna Koot, Margpali etc. festivals are also completed. Annakoot or Govardhan Puja started from Dwapar Yuga after the incarnation of Lord Krishna. In this puja the Deity of Govardhan Maharaj is made from cow dung. Jyotishacharya explains that only cow dung has a special place in this worship. Astrologer told that cow dung is considered pure. At the same time, Godhan i.e. cows are also worshiped in Govardhan Puja. Cow is also said to be the form of Goddess Lakshmi. Just as Lakshmi gives happiness and prosperity, in the same way cow mother also provides wealth in the form of health with her milk. Cow dung removes all kinds of Vishuddhi.

दीपावली के बाद आज कार्तिक मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की प्रतिपदा को गोवर्धन उत्सव मनाने की तैयारी चल रही है। इस दिन बलि पूजा अन्न कूट, मार्गपाली आदि उत्सव भी सम्पन्न होते हैं। अन्नकूट या गोवर्धन पूजा भगवान कृष्ण के अवतार के बाद द्वापर युग से प्रारम्भ हुई। इस पूजा में गाय के गोबर से गोवर्धन महाराज के विग्रह को बनाया जाता है। ज्योतिषाचार्य बताते हैं, कि गाय के गोबर का ही इस पूजा में विशेष स्थान होता है। ज्योतिषाचार्य ने बताया कि गाय का गोबर शुद्ध माना जाता है। वहीं गोवर्धन पूजा में गोधन यानि गायों की पूजा भी की जाती है। गाय को देवी लक्ष्मी का स्वरूप भी कहा गया है। लक्ष्मी जिस प्रकार सुख समृद्धि प्रदान करती हैं उसी प्रकार गौ माता भी अपने दूध से स्वास्थ्य रूपी धन प्रदान करती हैं। गाय के गोबर से तमाम तरह की विशुद्धियां दूर हो जाती हैं।
