21 Century Makers: TM Krishna on Carnatic music and the need for inclusion in art

Thodur Mada­busi Krishna, 41, affectionately known by his fans as TMK, wasn't always an activist. But over the years, he has come to be outspoken about the lack of inclusion in Carnatic music. In 2013 he wrote a history of Carnatic music, called A Southern Music. In 2018, he wrote another titled Reshaping Art, which looks at the politics and ethics of his art form. He uses his fame as a musician to talk about issues he cares about. Follow his interview with Outlook Magazine on his journey from a 12 year old singer, to the person he is now.
