पितृ पक्ष (Pitru Paksha) में पड़ने वाली नवमी तिथि को मातृ नवमी कहा जाता है. मातृ नवमी को घर की उन महिलाओं की पूजा की जाती है, जिनका निधन हो चुका है. हिंदू धर्म (Hindu Religion) की रीति-रिवाज के अनुसार, गुजर चुकीं माताओं का आशीर्वाद पाने के लिए इस दिन श्राद्ध किया जाता है और मातृ ऋण से भी मुक्ति पाई जा सकती है. ऐसा कहा जाता है कि इस दिन श्राद्ध करने से व्यक्ति की मनोकानाएं पूरी होती हैं. इस तिथि को सौभाग्यवती नवमी भी कहा जाता है. मातृ ऋण को सबसे बड़ा ऋण माना जाता है. राहु का संबंध कुंडली में चतुर्थ भाव चन्द्रमा या शुक्र से हो तो समझ लें कि मातृ ऋण है. हाथों का कठोर होना और हथेलियों का काला होना भी मातृ ऋण का संकेत है. चतुर्थ भाव, चन्द्रमा और शुक्र ये तीनों माता और उसके संबंध के बारे में संकेतक का काम करते हैं. मातृऋण से उऋण न होने पर कई तरह की समस्‍याएं पैदा होती हैं. मातृनवमी पर सरलता के साथ मातृऋण से उऋण हुआ जा सकता है.
