The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notice to the authorities of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in connection with the gas leak mishap that took four lives. The tribunal has asked the plant authorities to submit a report by February 11. The gas leak incident at the Coal Chemical Department of the plant had claimed lives of the four contractual employees of the plant.
On January 6, around 15 workers were on duty at the site when the incident had occurred. Ten of them had fallen ill following the leakage of toxic gas from the plant. All were initially admitted to the dispensary on the plant premises. Later, four of them were shifted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in a critical condition where doctors declared them dead.
