According to the IMD, Cyclone Tauktae which has intensified from very severe storm over eastcentral Arabian Sea to an "extremely severe" will reach the Gujarat coast on Monday evening. The state of Maharashtra is also bracing for the storm as the Met department predicted heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in north Konkan, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar and extremely heavy rainfall in Raigad on Monday.

In view of the high intensity cyclone warning issued by the IMD to Maharashtra and Gujarat, among other states, the Covid-19 vaccination drive in Gujarat has been cancelled on May 17 and 18, while the vaccination drive has been put on hold in Mumbai on May 17.
