TMC delegation meets EC over deployment of central forces, BJP hits back
  • 3 years ago
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation comprising Saugata Roy, Mahua Moitra and Yashwant Sinha met the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday in Delhi to discuss issues related to free and fair conduct of elections in West Bengal.

In a memorandum submitted to the Election Commission (EC), the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the election watchdog of having a 'partisan, biased approach in view of ongoing West Bengal polls'. TMC has requested the EC to revoke its decision to deploy only central forces within 100 m of polling stations and to tally 100 per cent VVPAT machines with EVMs after polling is over.

The EC has decided that all the polling stations in Bengal would be manned by central paramilitary forces and the state and city police would be deployed 200 metres away from the polling booths.
