Maharashtra Covid surge: Places of worship shut in Nanded till March 31

In view of the rise in coronavirus cases, the administration in Maharashtra's Nanded district on Thursday announced that all places of worship will remain shut till March 31, a district official said.

Issuing fresh orders to contain the spread of infections, the administration has directed that shops will be allowed to operate from 7 am to 5 pm, except for those engaged in essential services, the official said.

The number of daily Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra increased further on Thursday with the state crossing the 25,000-mark in daily cases, which is the highest single-day infection count so far this year.

Maharashtra reported 25,833 cases and 58 deaths in the last 24 hours, with Nagpur district alone reporting 3,796 new cases of the novel coronavirus.
