Russia will miss two Olympics the Games in Tokyo and Beijing as well as any world championship sporting events for the next two years.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports decided Thursday that Russia was not in compliance with international anti-doping rules.
Individual Russian athletes can still compete, but they are not able to use the Russian flag or have the anthem played should they win a medal.
The court also ruled that Russian officials and President Putin can't attend the Olympics.
