Life expectancy for S. Korean babies born in 2019 increases

South Korean babies born last year are expected to live on average eight years longer than those born 20 years ago....two years more than the OECD average.
Due to improved public health awareness and better medical care, babies born in Korea in 2019 are expected to live for an average of 83-point-3 years.
According to Statistics Korea, boys are expected to live for 80-point-3 years while girls have a life expectancy of 86-point-3 years.
The gender gap in life expectancy remains unchanged at six years for the second year in a row.
Meanwhile, the statistics agency picked cancer as the number one cause of death in the future for babies born in 2019, followed by heart disease and pneumonia.
