사이보그 올림픽 '사이배슬론 2020' 개최…우리나라 선수들 금•동메달 수상

An international sports event with a difference took place this weekend.
The participants, people with disabilities, competed against each other in robotic suits.
Our Jang Tae-hyun went to check out Cybathlon 2020. The latest technology is helping people paralyzed from the waist down to walk again.
Not only that, they are also climbing stairs and doing sit-ups... and competing against each other.
Cybathlon an international sports event, in which people with disabilities complete everyday tasks using technology was held at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology last Friday.
"We've been preparing for a year and six months, so putting the previous record of third place aside, today will be South Korea's best day. You'll see that Korea has the best wearable robotic technology."
"Take a closer look at how robotic technology has advanced in four years and how people can easily wear them and walk around."
"People with disabilities are wearing robotic suits to compete in sports events. This was supposed to be held in Switzerland, but due to the pandemic, it's being held online, with each athlete competing in their own country."
A total of 53 teams from 20 countries took part in the event.
Its main purpose is to push scientists to develop even better technology to help people with physical disabilities.
"Based on the robots made for this sports event, we have found several areas to improve on. And, we are planning to commercialize the robots so that more people can use them."
The new models make it easier for people to keep their balance, and they can walk eight times faster than previous models.
Any paralyzed patient can control and use the robot after just two hours of training.
For Kim Byeong-uk, 18 months of training paid off as he won a gold medal at the games, and Lee Joo-hyun won bronze.
